Recipe for Cooked Vanilla Frosting

This has been one of my most popular posts on Instagram. The story behind this frosting is that I had a carrot cake with an amazing not too sweet frosting on it and I asked the person for the recipe. She said I don't give out this recipe but I will tell you that it is cooked and it has cornstarch or flour in it. Well I went home and spent 2 hours trying to find it on the internet. To no avail! I was stumped. Then one day I saw a recipe in a old cookbook and thought it looked like the one I had on the carrot cake. I played with it a little bit and here it the delicious result.

Cooked Vanilla Frosting
1 cup milk 5 tablespoons flour 1 cup butter 1 cup icing sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla
1. Cook the milk and flour over a low heat stirring constantly with a whisk until it forms a paste. Let cool for at least 15 minutes.
2. In another bowl, mix together with an electric mixer the butter, icing sugar and vanilla.
3. Add the flour and milk mixture to the butter and icing sugar mixture. Beat for 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
Note: This icing is a nice consistency for spreading on a cake but not at all sweet. It makes 2 cups of icing.
